How To Dull Overwhelm and Be More Present

We have all experienced it. The sudden overwhelm, lack of motivation, tiredness and the "to do" list growing longer by the minute.  But how can we stay present and avoid this overwhelm when we are in full swing with work commitments, social gatherings and family to care for.  Here are some techniques I use to be present in the moment, in the hope that this will inspire you to bring a sense of calm to your day. 

Set an intention

Taking deep breathes into your heart space say the following:  ‘May I release all energies that are not of love vibration and free my mind and body of all that no longer serves me for my highest good. I send back any energies that are not mine with love. I am present in this moment and grounded with life force energy. So be it, and so it is.’

Check in with yourself

For a quick check in, you can take a few moments, close your eyes, put your hand on your heart and take some deep breaths.  Centre yourself, let all those random thoughts go and just 'be'.  In this space you can ask yourself "how am I feeling?", "how am I feeling within my body?", "how am I feeling within my heart?" then take a moment to really listen.

Surround yourself in uplifting vibes

This is your chance to light that candle you have been meaning to.  Burn some incense and pop some essential oils in your oil burner.  Use the uplifting sense of smell to bring you out of your funk and into a happier space.  My favourite uplifting essential oils are Bergamot and Lemongrass and I love to light Palo Santo to bring in positive energy.

Say No

This is about you regaining and stepping into your power.  Say no to any people, events and invitations that do not align for you.  There is no explanation you need to give, just simply saying no to what is not in your best interests is powerful.

Use Crystals

Gather your favourite crystals or those you are drawn to.  I'm using Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz and Tourmaline with my Selenite wand.  Hold the crystals in your hand or over your heart and say a little blessing such as "May this day be blessed with intent for my highest purpose.  Tell me all I need to know to help light and guide my path on this day".  Carry your crystals with you and hold them as needed, allow the energy of the crystal to work with your feelings and emotions.

Journal Writing

Take pen to paper and write all your thoughts, ideas, emotions, frustrations, fears and worries.  This doesn't need to make sense.  This is the opportunity to surrender and let go of all that no longer serves you for your highest good.  Then create space to manifest change and what you wish to have in your life.  Write down all these positive attributes and allow yourself to dream and feel inspired.

Spend Time In Nature

Open the windows and doors and allow fresh air to flow through your home and work space.  Go for a walk or sit in your garden with a cup of your favourite brew.  Step your bare feet onto the earth as this will ground you to Gaia the Goddess of Earth.

Surround Yourself With Water 

Drink lots of water to stay hydrated. This is also the time to take that beautiful bath with bath salts, candles and essential oils.  Create a magical space where you can relax and dream!  If you are near the ocean go for a swim or stand with your feet in the water allowing the waves to wash over you and cleanse away all that no longer resonates with you. 

Overall acknowledge your intuition, that feeling you have inside is directing you.  Allow the voice of your soul to speak, and you will feel much happier being in the flow of your own life rather than the pull against it.
